Hey guys! I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO sorry i haven’t been posting anything lately. It’s been kind of a crazy summer. We went to Connecticut, got Covid, then went to England, after spending 10 days in isolation, for a wedding, and then after a weeek of chilling, my parents went to Seattle, and this Friday I’m going to Cali for 3 days to visit my grandparents, and then I’m flying to Alaska, to see my adorbs baby cousin, 🥰😍. I’m looking at that sentence and realizing that it is way too long. Oh well. Anyways I promise to try to stay more constant. And now getting to the title. The Hunger Games! So if you know me, you probably always knew that I would kinda flip out over Hunger Games. Well, you were right. Special shout out to Maya Bua for lending me the first and second book. Honestly, it was amazing. If you haven’t read Hunger Games yet, then just read my review on the first book, because it’s hard not to spoil things when I write about the second and third book, but I’ll try. Now after that insanely long intro, let’s dive into it!

1. The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games is set around this girl named Katniss Everdeen (which is a rlly weird name ngl). She lives in this place called Panem where there are 12 districts and a Capitol. There is also a president named Cornelius Snow, but he’s not really important until book 2 and 3. 74 years ago there was this thing called the Dark Days. Basically, there used to be 13 districts but then District 13 rebelled, and the Capitol didn’t like that so they destroyed District 13 and killed everybody in it, and now to keep everybody in line they have something called the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is where they send a boy and a girl in each district to an arena in the Capitol where they have to fight and kill each other until there’s only one person left. Fun fact, the arena changes every time, and the arena is like really big and there’s jungles and forests and stuff where you can hide, so it’s not like a hockey arena or something. Now back to Katniss. She has this friend named Gale, a sister named Prim and a mom. Her dad died in a mining accident, along with Gale’s dad and a bunch of other people. Oh yeah, another thing. Each district is known for something. District 11 is known for its farming, and District 13 was known for graphite mining. District 12, where Katniss is from, is known for its mining. Anyways, the way that they decide which boy and which girl go to the Hunger Games is by pulling their name from a glass jar. There’s one for boys and one for girls. You start entering at age 11 and you finish entering at age 18. You have to enter once at age 11, and then you enter twice at age 12 and so on and so on. You can enter more than you’re supposed to in exchange for this thing called tesserae, which is basically just grains and oil, but because District 12, and some other districts are really poor, they don’t have enough to eat, the tesserae can really help them. For example, Gale, Katniss’s friend, has 4 younger brothers and sisters, and is also 18, is entering 42 times. Anyways this year’s Reaping is also Katniss’s younger sister Prim’s first Reaping. When Katniss and Prim get to the Reaping, the announcer Effie Trinket calls out Prim’s name when she reads the name off the slip from the glass jar. But, I forgot to tell you guys this but you can volunteer to take somebody else’s place in the Hunger games. So when Prim’s name gets called, Katniss volunteers to take her place. Now, you have to understand that The Hunger Games is a really big deal, and not in a good way. In some districts people train their whole lives because they want to go to the Hunger games, Like Districts 1 and 2, but those Districts are heavily influenced by the Capitol. For other Districts, going to the Hunger Games is a death sentence. You’re literally going there to fight to death. And it’s not like a fake death, it’s real. Once you go in that arena you’re probably never coming out. Now, to get to the point that I’m trying to make here, the fact that Katniss took Prim’s place means that Katniss is almost 100% going to die. So, yeah. Sorry to be a little dark but it’s true. Now back to the Reaping. Katniss is still in shock as she gets up on the reaping stage, but she can still hear the boy’s names being called. The boy Tribute going into the Hunger Games is someone named Peeta Mellark. Katniss actually knows Peeta and kinda respects/likes him, and they have this really cute backstory, but I’m not gonna tell you what it is, because it’s more fun reading about it. Anyways, Katniss and Peeta get on the train to go to the Hunger Games, and they meet their stylists. Katniss becomes friends with her stylist Cinna, and is kinda annoyed at her other stylists, named Octavia, Flavius, and Venia. They get her all dressed up for her interview. So, more of me explaining. Basically when the tributes for the Hunger Games arrive in the Capitol they have to go in front of the people that make and work for the Hunger Games called the Gamemakers and you have to present a skill to them and they give you a ranking. The highest ranking you can get is a twelve which is almost unheard of. Then after that you have to meet up for that interview that I was talking about. Basically you meet up with this guy named Caesar Flickerman and you have to talk about your training score and other things like that. Basically Peeta confesses something really big during his interview with Caesar Flickerman and then after the interview all the Tributes go into the arena for the Games. When you first enter the Games there’s sort of the initial bloodbath at this thing called the Cornucopia. The Cornucopia is filled with items and weapons and things that would be useful during the Games. When everybody goes there, they start fighting each other to get to the Cornucopia. Most of the time at least 5 of the Tributes die there. Baseline, Katniss and Peeta survive the Cornucopia. Now I don’t want to say anything else, because if I go any farther into this book it’s gonna spoil things. And, now I’m just realizing that I wrote a lot, so the people that are still here, thank you.
Hey everybody! So, that was a long review. And we still have two more books to go. So, I decided to split this one up into a 3 parter. Turns out Hunger Games is really hard to explain. Well, thanks for reading, and byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
