The Series Series: The Iron Trials

So, one of my fave book series (that I actually just finished) is called The Iron Trials. It’s has fantasy, and adventure, and if you like magic, then I’m 100% sure that you will like this series. Also, you would like this if you’re into Percy Jackson, or Harry Potter. This series is written by two of my favorite authors. Holly Black, and she wrote one of my favorite books, Doll Bones. And then, there’s Cassandra Clare, and she wrote the Shadowhunter Chronicles. Anyways, let’s dive into it. (I’m deciding to make a series called “The Series Series” where I make a series where I review series.)

The Iron Trial

Holly Black+Cassandra Clare

For every kid, the Iron Trial is different. For one child, it’s for ballet school, for another it’s for karate. But there’s one thing that brings every child together. They all want to pass the Iron Trial. Except for Callum (Call) Hunt. Because, he knows what the Iron Trial is really for. His father has told him all about the Iron Trial. The “teachers” would take them away to private rooms. From there they would perform things that they would have never excpected. There are eyeless fish, snobby kids, and the “teachers” are actually mages that can do magic, and are called “Masters”. Even though Call does horribly, he gets picked by the most prestigious master. Master Rufus, is the Master that every mage would want to have. He gets paired with the two kids that did the best in the trial. Tamara Rajavi and Aaron Stewart. At first, things are more than a little awkward between the three of them. But they soon grow on eachother. Tamara is smart, bossy, and comes from a wealthy mage family, and Aaron is just a normal kid, that is always polite and nice, yet still funny. Together, the group embark on an adventure and find out all of the secrets of The Cold Massacre in La Rinconada, and The Enemy of Death. This book is amazing, and I would rate it an overall 9/10.

The Copper Gauntlet

Holly Black+Cassandra Clare

Kay, so I just figured out something that I should tell you before I start this review. Actually this series is called The Magisterium series. I guess that makes sense, because it says Magisterium at the top in a cool font. Anyways let’s start. So, Call and Aaron and Tamara are in their second year of the Magisterium. As it turns out, Aaron is a Makar. Now, one thing before I tell you what a Makar is. So, the fact that Aaron is a Makar is NOT a spoiler, ’cause I have a strict rule that there are no spoilers in this blog. Now, there are different types of mages or people that do magic. Like metal mages, water mages, air mages, or fire mages. A Makar is a special type of mage that is very rare. A Makar is a chaos mage. So, Aaron can control the dead. Now to the plot of the story. Basically, there is this copper gauntlet (hence the name) that is called the Alkahest. The Alkahest is dangerous, and is kept locked up very carefully . Then, the Alkahest is stolen. Call, and Aaron and Tamara go on the run, and get chased by some dangerous creatures. Can they discover who stole the Alkahest? I would rate this book an 8/10.

The Bronze Key

Holly Black+Cassandra Clare

First things first, I want to talk (or type) about Jasper DeWinter because I forgot to cover him in the Copper Gauntlet, so I’m going to cover him now. Basically, Jasper is a jerk who is Call’s mortal enemy. He tagged along with Call, Tamara and Aaron when they were on their adventure in the Copper Gauntlet. Anyways, here’s the premise of the Bronze Key. Basically, the Magisterium throws a party for Aaron, Call, Tamara, and Jasper. After a series of shocking events at the party, including a death, Call, Aaron, and Tamara are pretty shooken up. They go and try to discover the assassin, and it leads the group into some pretty cray-cray situations. can they find the assassin and keep their own lives in the process. I would rate this book a 9/10.

The Silver Mask

Holly Black+Cassandra Clare

So, this book is probably my favorite book in the entire series. Anyways let’s get started. The Bronze Key ended with Call in the Panopticon (which is mage jail). Anastasia Tarquin, visits him. Anastasia is Alex Strike’s stepmother. Alex is two years older than Call, and was Call’s role model, until the events that happened in book three. He’s a Makar too, which makes thigns even more wild. He is VERY important sooo pay attention. So, when Anastasia visits Call she tells him a bunch of important stuff that I can’t tell you, because spoilers and all. Then Tamara and Anastasia break Call out of jail. Then they get kidnapped by Anastasia and go to the ENEMIES house! It’s a wild ride. The enemy is this crazy guy named Master Joseph. Then my guy Joseph dies and his even more crazy apprentice, Alex Strike ( I told you he’d be important) takes over and becomes an evil tyrant, and a Devoured of Chaos! A devoured of anything in the mage world is when someone uses too much of their specialized magic. Then they becom

e that magic and they’re not theirselves anymore. Their have veen very few chaos mages, so ther have been NO devoured of chaos in history! Anyways, I don’t have a bunch of space left, so I’m just going to wrap this one up and start my last book review for this post. I would rate this a 10/10.

The Golden Tower

Holly Black+Cassandra Clare

So, it’s time for some cover art talk. I don’t know if you’re wondering who the guy with the black cloud and white hair is, and why he’s riding a dragon. Well, I have the answer. It’s Alex Strike! Surprise, surprise! As you know, he became a devloured of chaos. Except basically he came back from the dead and is know alive and terroizing people. It’s a wild ride in the world of the mages. I know that I’ve said “it’s a wild ride” like ten times, but I’ve decided that that’s my new motto. Just kidding! Also, there’s some controversity on whether or not Call should go to mage college a.k.a the Collegium or if he should stay with his dad after Call’s last year at the Magisterium. His dad obviously wants him to stay, but Tamara and Jasper and Gwenda want him to go to the Collegium. So, you may be wondering who Gwenda is. So, she isn’t that big of a deal. She just moved in with Call, Tamara and Jasper, so she’s their friend and Jasper’s girlfriend. Anyways that’s it for now. I’d rate this book a 9/10.
