One Crazy Summer

Hey guys! I hope you have successfully transitioned to my new website. I know that it’s kind of inconvenient, and I’m still learning how to use it. Anyways, February is Black History Month, so I decided to review this book called One Crazy Summer. I really liked this book, so let’s dive into it!

One Crazy Summer

Rita Williams-Garcia

Guys, I have to tell you, this book is amazing. And you only have to look at the cover to see it. It won the Scott O’Dell Award for Historical Fiction, it was a Newberry Honor Book, a National Book Award Finalist, and there’s a whole list of others on the back cover. This story is set in the 1960’s where three sisters are living with their Dad and Grandma. Their Mom left them to go to Oakland, California. Delphine is the oldest sister, and could look after her sisters by the time she was seven. Vonetta is stuck trying to be the oldest and the youngest, and would put on a show to please someone any day. Fern, is the youngest, always trying to live up to her older sisters, and still carries around her doll everywhere. But then one fateful day their Dad announces that their going to visit their Mom. So, they fly to Oakland. They figured that their mom would want to catch up on all the time that they had missed together, and they would go to Disney World every day, and go tan on the beach. When they arrive, it is soooo not that. Their mom is dressed up in what looks like a spies outfit, and there are Black Panthers everywhere. The Black Panthers are a whole thing. They are protesting for African-American equality. Delphine wants to protect her sisters from them, but it also turns out that their Mom, Cecile, wants nothing to do with them and sends them to the Black Panther camp. So, that was basically the main plot of the story. It has some emotional elements, and it’s a really relatable story. I think that you guys would really enjoy this story.

So, that’s just a post for today. I decided to do an extra surprise post, because I missed the past couple of weeks. I feel like 75% of you don’t even know that I missed two weeks, so whatever. Then there’s one more thing that I’d like to comment on before I finish this post. It would be really helpful if you told me which website you guys prefer. Don’t be afraid to leave a comment, because it really does help me. If you like my WordPress website better of if you like my Wix website better, that way I can switch back or stay on this website. And, I’m going to include an audio of me reading this post, which I hope you guys will like. I believe that you can find it on Spotify. Here’s the link to it: https://open.spotify.com/show/0DVW6plX5L270Ko8YkQI9c

I’ll see you next week (or will I)?
